Dear Members:
Greetings! I would like to wish everyone well as we enter into the last part of the first semester of school. I hope all continues to go well for you in your classroom, school, and personal life. RCEA is very excited about what is going on throughout the county both with RCEA and the school district as a whole.
I would like to start with some exciting news. We have signed the contract (again) and it awaits ratification! I would love to say we are receiving a huge raise, but we are still at the 4% number we settled for originally. Remember, this is 1% more than what has been in your paycheck this school year and you will receive retro-pay (probably in your December paycheck). The RCEA negotiating team and the School Board’s negotiating team are pleased with the final agreement which was reached. We anticipate the final contract to be ratified by both the School Board and the RCEA members.
Speaking of ratification, the members of RCEA will not be asked to ratify the new contract until after the School Board has done so. This will avoid the unpleasant situation which occurred earlier this year. Please continue to visit the RCEAonline.com website for updates and the exact wording that was agreed upon.
Other notes: I hope all members are planning to attend the general meeting scheduled for November 19th. This will be a time for each member to speak directly to Mr. Whitlow and other Central Office personnel. Mr. Whitlow has agreed that any question, comment, or remark is fair game! I have been overwhelmed with calls, comments, and concerns about policies, procedures, and directives that come down from the central office. This is RCEA’s chance to band together and have those comments heard by the Director of Schools himself. Please make every effort to attend.
As always, I enjoy serving you and look forward to hearing from you. Please call me with your questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Justin C. Grimes
