This Sick Bank is established in accordance with the provisions of TCA 49-5-801 through 810. Purpose:
The purpose of the Robertson County Sick Leave Bank is to provide sick leave to contributors who have suffered a personal illness, injury, disability or quarantine and whose personal sick leave is exhausted.
Administration: The Robertson County Sick Bank shall be administered jointly by a 5 member committee appointed by the Robertson County Education Association and the Robertson County School System Central Office.
Eligibility:
All certified employees who are entitled to sick leave are eligible to participate.
Enrollment Period:
The enrollment period for participation in the Sick Bank is August 1st through October 31st of each school year.
Initial Enrollment Assessment:
The initial assessment to enroll in the sick bank is two accrued sick leaves days.
Rules of Membership:
Any certified employee may cancel membership at anytime by written request presented to the Sick Leave Bank Committee. The right to membership ceases with termination of employment, retirement, cancellation of membership, or refusal to comply with assessments. Sick leave days contributed to the bank are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Additional Sick Leave Assessment:
If the need should arise, the Sick Leave Bank Committee can request from each sick bank member an additional day or days if needed to maintain the bank.
In the event of such assessment, the membership must be notified in writing at least 10 days prior to the effective date of the assessment. At the end of the notification period, transfers will be made from the sick leave balances of members to the bank. This is with the exception of members who have notified the Sick Bank Committee of their desire to terminate their membership in the Sick Leave Bank.
Eligibility/Application for Sick Leave Days:
Members who have been enrolled for at least 30 days are eligible to apply for sick leave days.
Sick Leave days may be requested from the bank only for personal illness or injury of the certified employee. Leave may not be granted for elective surgery, pregnancy (exceptions made for complications that arise from childbirth) or illness of a member’s family.
All accrued leave (sick, vacation, personal) must be used in addition to four non-paid days before receiving sick leave days from the Sick Leave Bank.
A request form along with a physician’s statement must be submitted to the Sick Bank Committee before any request will be considered.
Granting of Sick Leave:
When considering sick leave requests, the committee will act in the best possible interest of all members of the Sick Bank. Each application will be acted upon within ten days of receipt of the request. All committee decisions are final.
A maximum of 20 days may be requested by a member at any one time. A member may submit additional requests for the same illness/accident; however, a maximum of 60 days can be allotted per member per fiscal year and only 90 days per incident.

Should you decide to join the sick leave bank, please complete the Sick Bank Enrollment Form and return it to the Robertson County School System Central Office.
Legislative action by the State of Tennessee has enabled the Robertson County Education Association and the Robertson County School System the opportunity to establish the Robertson County Education Association/ Robertson County School System Sick Leave Bank. This Sick Bank has been established in accordance to the guidelines set out in TCA-49-5-801-49-5-810. |
